September 2024 Newsletter

We're back!

With summer coming to an end and the start of the 2024/25 academic year, we want to use this newsletter as a 'welcome back' and introduce everyone to this year's WiF: we have a new board and big plans. Stay tuned!

September Recap

  • Fall Recruitment: We kicked off the year with a bang, receiving over 130 applications and meeting prospective members at Associations on Display and our recruitment aperivito. As we wrap up interviews, we look forward to welcoming many of you to the family.

  • Interview Ready: With internship recruitment fully underway, we've been busy prepping our members for the interview process with a mock assessment centre and a workshop on answering behavioural questions and brain teasers. A huge thank you to our alumnae who volunteered their time to conduct mock interviews with the girls.

Don’t miss out on our social media where we post our weekly tips, market news and market quizzes as well as stories of women that keep inspiring us!

Last Year's Highlights

Workshop SuccessesLast year was a year full of successful workshops, and we only have our members to thank for that! We had the opportunity to learn about restructuring, derivatives trading, impact investing, and so much more. Hosting the asset allocation competition in partnership with BSIC was also a major highlight.

WiF Meets...We had the opportunity to meet and chat to representatives from a number of firms, including PAI Partners and Moody's! These were invaluable experiences for the girls to gain insights into different aspects of the industry. Women, Women, Women! We spoke to so many inspiring women last year, including representatives from the Resilient Women's Organisation, discussing the reality of the struggles women in Uganda face, and Prof. Paola Profeta, speaking on gender inequality and its continued prevalence in today's world. These sessions are incredibly important to us to gain perspectives on the cause at the heart of our association.SocialWe ended the year as a tight-knit group of friends, which can be attributed to the various social activities we organised as a group. Whether that be our Christmas Dinner, Bowling Night, Aperitivos, Brunches, or End-of-Year Dinner, the events meant we all got to know each other very well!

What's To Come

Workshops & Events in the Pipeline

WiF has an exciting agenda of workshops and events scheduled for members including workshops on options and greeks, pitch competitions, company presentations and much more…As we constantly look to adapt and grow as a society, our plans are getting more and more exciting, watch this space!

New & Improved WebsiteAlongside our work on growing the content of our workshops to better meet the demand of our members, our communications team is hard at work revamping our website to benefit not only our current members, but also our alumni, creating a referrable directory, database for useful documents and much more….

Charitable Causes

Additionally, as we aim to amplify the voices of women in finance, we plan to organise more events to fundraise and raise awareness for issues impacting women, more details to come, we look forward to seeing you soon.
